Mount Calvary’s Rev. Tyson: ‘Season of Turmoil Shall Pass’
Rev. C. Shawn Tyson, pastor at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church in Youngstown, is hanging tough. You can read more about him at the church’s website.
What are some ways the COVID-19 outbreak has changed your work life?
As a pastor of two churches and a traveling evangelist, COVID-19 has prevented me from being able to physically be present at the church located in Indianapolis and to minister outside of the state. However, it has not stopped me from being able to share the gospel of Jesus Christ via Facebook Live and other streaming resources. I have found that while the method changed, the message must stay the same and God must still be glorified.
How about your personal life?
I have two grandchildren under the age of 5 years old who are accustomed to seeing either myself or my wife once a month. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to see them since March. We FaceTime them, but it’s nothing like seeing them and being able to play with them in person.
What steps are you taking to hang tough?
I am speaking what I believe, believing what I say. I am choosing to walk through this process declaring victory every step of the way, and believing that God’s thoughts towards me are thoughts of peace and not of evil to give me an expected end. I daily and even sometimes hourly declare God’s promises that tell my present position and present condition, that this season of turmoil, too, shall pass. My goal is to pass through this season with my ear pressed against heaven’s gates so that I can handle not only this season but the next season with wisdom, authority and power. My personal declaration is: I AM NOT A WORRIER; I AM A WORSHIPPER.
What advice are you sharing with the people you love?
There are 8 things I share with my loved ones.
1. Counteract negative thoughts with positive thoughts.
2. Don’t worry about it, pray about it.
3. Write it down. Get all those negative thoughts out of your head…lay them out before God and rebuke those thoughts, then throw the sheet away.
4. Visualization is key. See things the way you expect them to be.
5. Limit your exposure to repetitive negative news.
6. Spend a minimum of 30 minutes daily in at least one stress-relieving activity that you enjoy…
7. Build your immune system by eating healthy fruits, vegetables, and vitamin supplements (Electric Foods).
8. Pray without ceasing and keep praising God!!!
