Marty Loney: ‘Keep Communication Open, Be More Patient’

Marty Loney, business agent for Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 396, is coming back strong with his wife, Lisa, and family. To learn more about Local 396, visit its website.

What are some ways the COVID-19 outbreak has affected your organization, and how is it rebounding?

Local 396 workforce has definitely been affected by this virus. We had MAJOR sites in the area shutdown due to social distancing measures. But, on the positive side, things are starting to open up!

How has the outbreak affected your personal life?

This has given us time to reflect on what’s important to us. My wife and I have three children. Both of our younger daughters were to graduate this year — one from Ohio University and the other from Boardman High School. The coronavirus affected both of their commencements but we were able to work through it.

What steps are you taking to come back strong?

Each day presents new challenges. Our contractors have been affected as well. We have to keep the lines of communication open now more than ever.

What advice are you sharing with the people you love?

Be more patient and understanding. The times have affected some people on a personal level more than others. We never really know someone else’s whole story.
