Magic Tree’s Rudy: Patio Upgrades, Live Music Plays On

What are some ways your business is rebounding from the effects of COVID-19?

While it’s still too early to tell if we’ve rebounded from the hit we took during COVID-19, it’s safe to say we’re trying!

When restaurants were ordered to close the doors to dine-in guests, my management team and I quickly came up with a plan to offer curbside, takeout and delivery to the community. The community support was fantastic!

We also took advantage of the time and made some improvements to the building, purchasing new patio equipment for our 2,000-square-foot patio, painting our banquet room, ordering brand new special event supplies and cleaning.

We delayed our grand re-opening to June 2, to ensure the experience was safe and healthy for both our guests and employees, and the support from the community, once again, has been incredible. Summer is always a busy time at THE TREE, and we’ve had a really great couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that we stay busy, as we add live music and events.

What’s been the reaction from customers so far?

Our guests are extremely happy to be eating, drinking and celebrating with us again! After not working for months, some of us were dusting off cobwebs, and customers really gave us grace. We’ve been overwhelmed with positive online reviews, phone calls and text messages. It’s truly amazing how a crisis can really bring a community together.

What impact has the outbreak had on you personally?

I had a nice, long vacation planned to unwind from our St. Patrick’s Day festivities (usually the busiest time at Magic Tree). Not only did our guests not get to party as planned, but I also had to reschedule my vacation and figure out a “new normal” and temporary plan for Magic Tree. I also lost loved ones to both Coronavirus and unexpected illness during the pandemic; because of the stay-at-home orders, I hadn’t seen them in a while, which broke my heart.

What advice are you sharing with the people you love?
