Farmers’ Santiago: Reflecting On Blessings, Pressing On

Juan Santiago, vice president and community development manager at Farmers National Bank, is hanging tough. You can read more about Juan on the bank’s website.

What are some ways the COVID-19 outbreak has changed your work life?

In my position as a loan officer, I enjoy the interaction I have with my customers on a daily basis — face-to-face. However, as a result of the social distancing mandate that we are required to follow, it has resulted in alternative ways in engaging with my clients. Though I am truly grateful for technology, I am still very much an old-fashioned person who likes to transact business with my clients in person. Also, with employees now having the ability to work from home, I miss the interaction with my fellow colleagues.

How about your personal life?

The toughest part I would have to say is not being able to get together with family and friends as I so often do. Whether it’s getting together for lunch, playing a game of volleyball, going to church, or getting together for the holidays (like Resurrection Sunday), not being able to spend time with those I am close to and love is a bit challenging.

What steps are you taking to hang tough?

Spending more time reflecting on the things I still can do, and taking many walks reflecting on the blessings that I do have.  Also, I’m thankful for the fact that my family and I are still healthy, as this illness does not appear to discriminate when it comes to age or fitness/health level.

What advice are you sharing with the people you love?

This too shall pass, and soon we will be able to enjoy those things we so often take for granted. Additionally, it is for our well-being and that of others. So, we must press on.
