Dr. Miladore: Treating Patients, Spending Time With Family

Dr. Michael Miladore, an orthopaedic surgeon and partner with Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates, is coming back strong, alongside his family. You can read more about Dr. Miladore at the YOA website.

What are some ways the COVID-19 outbreak has affected your organization, and how is it rebounding?

Like most other businesses, we were affected by COVID-19. Elective surgeries were suspended from mid-March to May 1. Office visits were significantly decreased; however, patients with urgent cases, such as fractures and infections, were still treated. Unfortunately, some employees were furloughed, and one of our office locations was closed temporarily.

Our administrative team has been putting forth extra effort by instituting government regulations to keep our office open. I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of our staff to make appropriate changes allowing us to continue to care for patients during these uncertain times.

How has the outbreak affected your personal life?

The COVID-19 outbreak led to much more free time during the week. I enjoyed spending extra time with my wife and daughter, exercising regularly and catching up on sleep.

Many days were spent outside working on my yard and playing with my daughter. We went on many stroller rides, colored with chalk on the driveway, and she began to learn to ride a bike.

My family spent much time using video messaging to keep in touch with each other. These video calls included reading bedtime stories, celebrating birthdays and meeting my newborn niece. My friends and I used applications to socialize, play games and have fun.

What steps are you taking to come back strong?

My business has remained open throughout the pandemic to provide urgent orthopaedic care while taking the appropriate measures to protect patients and staff. Masks and hand sanitizer are provided for all patients. Temperatures are taken of patients and staff each day.

Since May 1, I have been allowed to operate on all orthopaedic problems. Under the new guidelines, I have been trying to get patients back in the office and back on the OR schedule as soon as possible. We are staying safe, yet working hard to help patients feel better.

What advice are you sharing with the people you love?

My advice is to take appropriate measures to maintain safety but keep moving forward. COVID-19 has caused much emotional and physical damage, but our lives will eventually return to normal.
